The Verloren Vallei Nature Reserve is a must-visit location for those seeking a more relaxed setting. All three of the world’s endangered crane species have breeding populations there, making it one of the few places in South Africa where they may be found.

At the Reserve, you can see the Wattled Crane, Crowned Crane, and Blue Crane, which is the national bird of South Africa. The Crowned Crane is in danger, and the Wattled and Blue Cranes are both extremely endangered.

Located roughly 13 km from Dullstroom, has been declared a Nature Reserve. The reserve is situated in a pristine region of the Steenkampsberg Plateau, characterised by expansive, undulating grasslands and ponds.

The Reserve features a network of over thirty wetlands with a high and nationally significant concentration of unique and Red data species, along with typical Highlands grassland.
