Geology Tour
Barberton’s geology led to its inscription as a World Heritage Site on July 2, 2018. The Makhonjwa Mountains are home to the planet’s oldest and best-preserved sequence of sedimentary and volcanic rocks, which is what makes them so unique. These incredibly accessible historic exposures, called the Barberton Greenstone Belt, display a continuous 350 million year old succession of rocks that started 3 600 million years ago.
