Shik Shack Community Backpackers & Tours
Shik Shack Backpackers offers unique bed & breakfast accommodation, and is situated off the Orpen Road approximately 35km from Hoedspruit. The lodge is the ideal base to experience an Africa cultural stay, while being near to the surrounding attractions such as the Kruger National Park.
Accommodation at Shik Shack Backpackers comprises various Traditional Huts and Safaris Tents, which can accommodate 2 persons in each. Each hut or tent is furnished with 2 single beds fitted with comfortable bedding. Each hut or tent contains amenities such as towels, mosquito nets, fans, storage compartments, and a bottle of water. Guests have access to a communal bathroom with hot-water showers to freshen up.
A continental breakfast is served in the main building, where there is a shared kitchen as well for guests to prepare and cook their own meals. The lodge also boasts free Wi-Fi access in the public area; a common social area with a lounge, a bar, a fire pit, as well as a swimming pool and braai facilities.
Shik Shack is built with the intention of capturing the true heart and soul of part of South Africa. The lodge has rescue dogs and a couple of curious donkeys; guests can experience a deeper insight into the vibrant Tsonga culture and be part of a thriving eco-village community. The hosts are able to arrange village walking tours, as well as day trips into Kruger National Park, or to the Panorama Route and Blyde River Canyon, to name but a few attractions.
