An agricultural hub of note, the town of Hestorspruit is nestled along a main arterial route, the N4. Hectorspruit sees a lot of traffic and is more than just a pitstop. There are accommodation options on such as game farms, and it’s a well-liked destination due to its proximity to the Kruger National Park.

BRIEF HISTORY:
It is named after the dog owned by the two engineers, P H Bouten and Theo Steinmetz. They were responsible for the surveying of the Eastern Railway Line and came to South Africa in 1888. While surveying the route, the dog died after being bitten by a tsetse-fly near a tributary of the Crocodile River, of which the name was unknown. They buried the dog next to this tributary and named it Hectorspruit, meaning ‘Hector’s Creek’. The town Hectorspruit (SiSwati: Mjejane) is situated just south-east of the station. The railway line was completed from Komatipoort to Hectorspruit on 1 October 1891.
