Melanie Maritz: Entering Pumbaa Wildlife Park and Realizing a Dream from Childhood.

Melanie Maritz had a deep-seated desire to improve the lives of animals in need since she was a small child. Her dream started taking shape on November 12, 2017, when a friend showed her an abandoned warthog that had been left on his own after being split off from his mother.Melanie and Hennie took a big decision when they realized that the little warthog needed a safe and caring habitat, so they bought some land. Knowing that this young warthog would not be able to survive in the wild on his own, they made their decision with that knowledge in mind.

This was the beginning of Pumbaa Wildlife Park, a facility inspired by the endearing journey of a single small pig.

In addition to leading a happy and contented life at the park, Pumbaa is now surrounded by a loving warthog family that includes Dolores, Timone, and Nala-each of them has a wonderful story of their own.

With only a minuscule chance of surviving, this little warthog was on the verge of extinction. Hennie, Melanie’s devoted spouse, gave him round-the-clock care and gently nurtured him back to health. This encounter inspired a concept that would change people’s lives.
