Kaapschehoop, also spelled Kaapsehoop or Kaapsche Hoop, is an idyllic village located just 30 kilometres from Mbombela. Although sometimes misty, one finds that this adds to the village’s mysticism. Around the same time as Pilgrim’s Rest and Barberton saw their own gold rushes in 1882, so did this tiny and admirably preserved settlement. Diggings were replaced by weekend homes and lodging facilities, and today this small community is a much-loved hideaway with quaint shops, restaurants and lodging.
